What is a Coaching Plan?

My coaching plans differ from the "training plans " by giving you, the athlete, more personal interaction.  This personal interaction includes things such as emails and phone calls offering encouragement, making changes to the training depending on how you are responding to the training, if the thing called life gets in the way of your training plan or if you decide at the last minute to add a race to the plan.  Your plan is designed around your life and the time that you have available to ride. 

What is involved?

Before we turn the first pedal in training, we'll discuss what the most important race(s) for the season are to you.  We'll then determine what physical ability is needed for you to succeed in that event.  We'll also discuss what "success" is.  Is success for you finishing the event, top 10, podium, winning?  After that is accomplished, the next step is to determine where we are at.  After all, it's more efficient to get somewhere if you know where you are starting.  This involves doing a fitness test to determine your training zones.  After this is done, we'll map out a generalized plan that takes us to the peak, then each month, each week and each day, we'll get more specific.  So, in summary, this is the process:

• What event(s) are we aiming for
• What physical ability is needed for the event
• What is "success" for you
• What is the current state of fitness
• Structure the route we need to take to make you successful
• Analyze, adjust, modify

I don't race.

That's o.k.  You don't need to race in order to use a coaching service.  Maybe you're aiming to do a century or a weekend bike tour.  A well structured training plan will allow you to make the most out of your training, improve your fitness and, as a result, have a more enjoyable bike event.
