Petition for Safer Roads
This petition has been written, signed and submitted by
the residents of Alabama and the counties and cities within
Alabama. This petition for safer roads is to the
State of Alabama legislators. This petition for safer
roads is also to the city council members, mayors, city
planners and road engineers of every
county, city and municipality within Alabama. We, the aforementioned signees of this petition, are hereby contacting you with concern from the road users in the area that you represent or have jurisdiction over.
We are contacting you today and we will be
contacting you tomorrow regarding the need for wider
roads. Unfortunately, the majority of the roads in this
area are too narrow and do not allow for both motorized and
non-motorized vehicles to co-exist on taxpayer funded road
ways. As a result, serious injuries and deaths are
happening far too frequently to the citizens in which you have
asked to vote for you. In addition, hostilities between
motorized and non-motorized road users erupt because of this
lack of space.
Making the roads wider will make the road ways safer for both
motorized and non-motorized road users. This safer
atmosphere for the non-motorized road users will, in effect,
encourage other citizens that currently rely on motorized
transportation to entertain the idea of a non-motorized
alternative for travel. As a result, more people will ride
or walk to the store, work or to a friend's house in another
neighborhood. This change will help alleviate the current
traffic problems and the current air pollution problems that
affect are area. These changes will also allow for
children to safely walk to school or ride their bikes to
school. In general, these changes will improve the quality
of life for the citizens of Alabama, its counties, cities and
municipalities.
We understand that it may not always be feasible to place
dedicated lanes on the roads for non-motorized road
users due to space. However, small adjustments to
the current road designs, such as wider shoulders on the road
ways and where feasible, dedicated lanes for non-motorized road
users would allow the motorized and non-motorized road
users to use the same roads with increased safety for both and
reduced hostilities.
Please, on all future road projects, make provisions for both
the motorized and non-motorized road users. We no longer
want to hear that there is no money and our requests going
unheard. There is money to fund these road projects and we
want these road projects done now. For every day you
delay, another citizen, taxpayer and voter gets killed or
seriously injured.
Signed,
Resident, Tax Payer and Road
