Series Outline

  • The Birmingham Bike League is designed to be a controlled training ride with strategically placed "attack zones".  The ride is not intended to be an all out "last man or woman standing" type ride.  The purpose of the ride is to get in winter "base" mileage, while providing brief periods of "race simulations".  After each race simulation, there will be a regrouping.  Most of the rides will be three to four hours in duration.  Each attack zone, will be about five or six miles long.
    • A whistle will be used to signal the start of the attack zone.
  • Participants will get points for attending the rides.  Points will be given for the winner of each attack zone.  At the end of each month, prizes will be given out to the overall leaders.
  • The points will be 5,4,3,2,1 for the top 5 in the attack zones.  Because this ride is intended to be a controlled ride, anyone attacking outside of the attack zone will not be given points.
  • At the end of each month, the top 3 riders will be given a prize of some type throughout the series.
    • Points are good for one fiscal month (ie November only, December only) and the slate is wiped clean and everyone starts over again at zero.  So, you can be lazy in November and not be out of the series and prizes.
  • The rides will be leaving from the Starbucks in Mountainbrook every Saturday.  The ride will depart at 8:30 a.m .  The series will go from November until the last Saturday in January.
  • Updates, series standings, etc. will be available on this page (scroll down).  Please, check back often to stay in the "loop".
  • No one sponsors this ride.  No one is in "charge" of this ride. The ride is at your own risk.  This is a group ride, so there are risks.  There is no entry fee.  There is no insurance.

November 6th News New!!!

  • The 2nd edition of the B.B.L. will head out toward Camp Winnetaska.  The ride will depart from the Mtn. Brook Starbucks at 8:30.  We'll roll out through the neighborhoods and make our way to 78 and roll through Leeds.  We'll make the right at the "Y" before I-20 and then make the right at the Camp Winnestaska sign.  The attack zone will begin somewhere on the series of rollers and end at the last hill on that stretch of road.  The group will soft pedal (stop for a few minutes or double back) for a regrouping.  A stop at the store is possible to refuel.  We'll roll over Hwy 25 to 119.  Turn left and then right at the store.  Head to Sicard Hollow and turn up 78.  The second attack zone will be on 78 and end at "Cemetary Hill".  Each attack zone will be marked with paint.
    • Be sure to come and get your points.  Prizes from Scott, Giant, Zipp and the bike shops is being collected.

November 3rd News

  • The inagural ride kicked off today.  Please, spread the word about the new bike ride in town.  The ride will be run every Saturday.  This is not the usual "run what you brung" and try to hang on ride.  This is a controlled ride with "attack zones".  After each attack zone, there will be a regrouping.  For the most part, there will be one attack zone per hour.
